Cyber Essentials Is Changing - Are You Ready?

If Cyber Essentials has been on your radar, or something you've been meaning to "get around to", now is the time to pay attention.

From the end of April 2026, the requirements are changing, and they're becoming more stringent.

The updated framework, Cyber Essentials: Requirements for IT Infrastructure v3.3, introduces tighter expectations around how businesses manage devices, users, cloud services, and overall security posture.

    What's Changing (In Simple Terms)

Without going too deep into the technical detail, here's what's important:

    • Cloud services are now fully in scope (you can't exclude them anymore)
    • User access controls are tighter (especially around MFA and privileged accounts)
    • Device and asset visibility is more critical than ever
    • Security updates must be applied quickly (often within 14 days)
    • Clearer expectations around remote working and BYOD (personal devices)

In short: It's less about "ticking a box"... and more about genuinely understanding and managing your IT environment.

Where Many Small Businesses Will Struggle

The reality is most small and medium businesses won't fail Cyber Essentials because they're doing something wrong...

    They'll fail because:

    • They don't have full visibility of their devices, systems, or users
    • They haven't clearly defined their scope
    • They aren't sure what's included anymore (especially cloud apps like Microsoft 365)
    • They don't have consistent controls across all devices

And that's usually where the process falls over, right at the beginning.

The Good News... You Don't Need to Fail

This is exactly why we've created something to help.

We've built a Cyber Essentials Readiness Quiz / Scorecard, based on the updated requirements.

    It's designed to give you:

    • Visibility of where you currently stand
    • A simple red / amber / green style overview
    • Early warning of gaps before you submit
    • A clearer plan of what needs attention

Think of it as a dry run before the real thing.

If Something Flags Up... What Then?

This is where we come in.

At Connection Worx, we act as the hub of specialist support.

    That means:

    • If it's something simple, we can often help directly
    • If it's more technical, we'll guide you through it
    • If it needs a specialist, we'll connect you with trusted partners

We don't expect you to become a cyber expert overnight.

We just help you understand where you are, understand what's needed and move forward with confidence.

    Why This Matters (Beyond Certification)

Cyber Essentials isn't just a badge.

    Done properly, it helps you:

    • Reduce risk of cyber attacks
    • Protect customer and business data
    • Build trust with clients and partners
    • Meet compliance expectations (especially in contracts/tenders)

And with the new changes, it's becoming a much more accurate reflection of real-world security.

Most businesses don't fail Cyber Essentials because they're "insecure"... They fail because they haven't had the right visibility or guidance. That's exactly what we're here to change.
